As shown in photos, the top of the wood seat has previously split, which we consider part of this piece's charm. At some point, there was an attempted repair (old hardware can be seen underneath). There is some movement to the top pieces, however, both pieces of wood are thick and can hold weight for sitting, lighting and decor.
