Large Antique Danish Quartersawn White Oak Five-Drawer Dresser with Hidden Handwritten Notes on Drawer Underside
Generously proportioned and striking a perfect balance of handsome and soft, our large antique Danish quartersawn white oak dresser is a stately yet approachable addition to your home.
Perhaps even better than what can be seen on the outside is the unexpected surprise on the underside of one of the drawers — a beautifully hand-written note in cursive, detailing the names, dates and a few other details of three people. While we have not been able to decipher exactly what was written, we were able to translate "født," which means "born," leading us to believe the dates may be markers of these individual's lives.
Why this note was left on the underside of this drawer, we're unsure, but we have to believe that someone felt that these people, and this piece, were special enough to be tied together and carried forward.
We love this in a large entryway (it would be great to hold shoes, coats and all the dejected mail that you never seem to get around to opening), in a primary bedroom styled with a softly lit lamp, mirror and vase with fresh flowers or in a cozy corner of a living room to use as stylish storage for games, toys and blankets.
As shown in photos, there is age-appropriate wear throughout, to include splitting of the wood on the top and both sides. This split does not affect functionality or stability.

"We feel so incredibly lucky to have ended up as the caretakers of this piece while it waits for its new home.
I would like to think that whoever wrote this note, and the people whose names were written, would be happy that it found its way to us."
