Wearing casual attire with a resigned look on his face set against a deep yet vibrant green, one can guess this painting embodies the conflicting feelings of despair at the way things were and hope for a brighter future. Stretched canvas is attached to the frame with nails, only further adding to the character of this portrait.

As shown in photos, there is age-appropriate wear, including some surface soiling that may be able to be cleaned, however, we consider this part of this piece's story and charm. The soiling shown above the right shoulder is less prevalent in person.
